The Symposium/Webinar on the Foundation of the Ottoman Empire and Yalova, held on July 27, 2020.

27th July marked the anniversary of the Bafeus Victory in Yalova, a critical moment in the Ottoman Empire’s journey to statehood in 1302, and in honor of Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık, the “Symposium on the Establishment of the Ottoman State and Yalova” was conducted. The program was organized by the Yalova Governorship, Yalova Municipality, the Provincial Administration, and the Halil İnalcık Institute for Ottoman History Research.

The symposium commenced with a tour of the exhibition showcasing calligraphy, illumination, and miniature artworks at the entrance of the Provincial Administration. Speaking during the live-streamed event, Acting Mayor Mustafa Tutuk stated that they would continue İnalcık’s initiatives initiated in 2009. Tutuk emphasized the significance of July 27 in marking a crucial period in the establishment of the Ottoman State, noting that Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık brought this historical event to the people, paving the way for Ottoman State establishment studies.

Reminding the audience that İnalcık was honored as an “honorary fellow citizen” by the Yalova Municipal Council, Tutuk pledged to exert every effort to pass on İnalcık’s name and works to future generations. The symposium was attended by Governor Muammer Erol, Provincial General Assembly President Hasan Soygüzel, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Oğuzoğlu, Director of the Halil İnalcık Institute for Ottoman History Research, various institution directors, and academics. AK Party Yalova Deputy Ahmet Büyükgümüş participated in the symposium via teleconferencing.”
